Rules: Sagittarius (and classically
Pisces) / 9th house (and
classically 12th house)
Natal significance: In your natal chart, Jupiter shows where you are likely to expand and grow. If it conjuncts a planet or other sensitive point in your chart, Jupiter tends to exaggerate and intensify the actions and energies represented by that planet or point. The house in which you find Jupiter is the house where you are most likely to look for -- and, depending on aspects to Jupiter, to find -- opportunities for growth and learning.
Transiting significance: The effects of the transits of Jupiter are similar to the effects of its natal placement -- where Jupiter passes is where you'll find opportunities for growth and expansion, as well as intensification of the energies of other planets and points it aspects. Jupiter is often considered the planet of luck, benevolence and protection, but while amateur or shifty astrologers may make promises about it bringing luck, growth and happiness, its effects have more to do with the potential for growth and opportunity, and how you choose to act on them, than on the literal materialization of these supposed benefits. Like any other planet, Jupiter's energy can be constructive or destructive depending on how the individual chooses to receive and use it.
